Calling all those who’d like to out their inner editor. We are looking for two more people to take part in our Editor Development Programme, run in conjunction with the Poetry School. A chance for poets and would-be editors to get hands-on experience of poetry editing. \u00a0Abigail Parry and I, the first generation of assistant editors, wrote about our experience in the spring\/summer issue of The Rialto<\/i>, and I\u2019ve blogged about it here<\/a>, here <\/a>and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been terrific.\u00a0 If you got the job:<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You\u2019d read a lot of poetry, and find out what people are writing at the moment.\u00a0 You\u2019d discover (probably) whether you like reading large numbers of poems.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You could bring new writers to the magazine.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You\u2019d sit around with editor Michael Mackmin and discuss whether a poem works or not, and why.\u00a0 That was the best thing of all.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You\u2019d learn about ordering poems, and work on putting the magazine together.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You\u2019d edit your own section in one issue of the magazine, together with your co-assistant editor.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You\u2019d find out what\u2019s involved in running a poetry magazine, from design to finance to publicity.<\/p>\n
